Rektör. Prof. Dr. Vasılıy N. Melnıchenko
Born in Kiev, Ukraine, in 1950, Vasily Nikolaevich Melnychenko is a professor of biochemistry and an academician at the Ukrainian Academy of Technology. Following the 1986 Chernobyl disaster, he served on the scientific committee that oversaw the liquidation of the nuclear power plant. He oversaw the decontamination of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and the surrounding area.
Based on the knowledge and experience he gained at the Chernobyl Power Plant, he conducted numerous studies on radiation and its adverse effects on the human body. He became known worldwide for his discoveries and studies on radiation, its effects, and iodine deficiency in its isolation.
Invited to the congress organized by Brussels Capital University Turkey Information Center in 2016, Melniçenko spoke at the public conference on iodine deficiency in Istanbul and was awarded an honorary doctorate and diploma by Brussels Capital University for his scientific study titled Iodine Deficiency and Human Health. Melniçenko, who has been on the academic staff of our institution since 2016, has been appointed as rector by the Brussels Capital University administration as of the beginning of 2023.
