Prof. Dr. Vasılıy N. Melnıchenko

Born in 1950 in Kyiv / Ukraine, Vasiliy Nikoloyevich Melnichenko is a biochemistry professor and an academician of the Ukrainian Academy of Technology. After the 1986 Chernobyl disaster, he took part in the scientific committee that managed the liquidation process of the nuclear power plant. He managed the decontamination process of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and the region.

In the light of the knowledge and experience he gained at the Chernobyl Power Plant, he conducted many studies on radiation and the negative effects of radiation on the human body. He became known worldwide for his inventions and studies on radiation and its effects and isolation of iodine deficiency.

Invited to the congress organized by Brussels Capital University Turkey Information Center in 2016, Melnichenko was a speaker at the conference on iodine deficiency open to the public in Istanbul and was presented with an honorary doctorate degree and diploma by Brussels Capital University for his scientific study called Iodine Deficiency and Human Health. Melnichenko, who has been in the academic staff of our institution since 2023, has been appointed as the rector by the management of Brussels Capital University as of the beginning of 2023.
